When it was built in 1923 as the American Furniture Mart, this 2,000,000 sf building was the largest in the world. The 29 story building is located on Lake Michigan on Chicago’s Near North Side. It was converted by Lohan Associates into 415 very spacious residential units divided into three separate condominium associations, each with its own entry and service core. Because the floor plates are so large, the condominiums wrap the building on three sides and are forty feet deep; the fourth side, 140 feet deep, is indoor parking on seven lower floors and loft type office on the remaining floors. The entire first floor is retail.
