The Frito Lay headquarters building is nestled in a ravine with protected views on a former ranch in northeast suburban Dallas. Wildflowers, live oak trees and native prairie grasses surround the building which straddles a stream flowing into Quisenberry Lake. Frito Lay management’s desire was to give the entire project a North Texas regional flavor and provide extraordinary amenities for its employees.
The 530,000 sf building is composed of three, three story rectangular wings joined together to create a triangular courtyard. The south wing, which spans the lake, is supported by a 120 foot long bridge structure and houses the cafeteria with views to the courtyard and lake.
A base of split faced Texas limestone rises out of the earth to create a plinth for the geometrically precise steel structure which is clad in aluminum and granite. Aluminum sun shades provide passive solar protection from the harsh Texas sunshine.
